Onion rips into The Daily Planet - a missed narrative opportunity

In perhaps one of the most interesting pieces of satire about the state of journalism today, The Onion has ripped into the depiction of one of the most well known fictional newspapers in the world: The Daily Planet from the Superman comics.

Basically, the paper is the most unbelievable part of Superman’s universe according to this fine piece of writing.

On a serious note: in terms of elements that are meant to help ground a comic book in the real world and help you suspend your disbelief, The Daily Planet is no longer a great tool for that, as it’s so removed from the realities of journalism today. The irony is that by not depicting the true state of journalism in the comics of Supes, writers at DC are missing out on a great subplot device that could throw some none villainous peril into the the lives of many of the characters from Superman. It’s a missed narrative opportunity.
